CDRC-Boston Announces Thanksgiving Basket Design Competition Winner: Reed Hilderbrand

The CDRC-Boston panel of judges has selected the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (photos at left) by the design team at Reed Hilderbrand as this year's winning basket design for our first Annual CDRC-Boston Thanksgiving Basket Design Competition.

From Reed Hilderbrand Associate, John Kett:

"The theme of this entry is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, featuring the Mayflower, a turkey "float" and the crowd favorite Mr. Potato Head "balloon". We chose for the setting a stretch of 5th Avenue fronting Central Park for its significance to both Landscape Architecture and urban design.

The base transforms into three manageable segments for ease of transport and each object in the parade serves a dual function as both a "basket" and as something that we hope a family will be able to use again: the Mayflower, shrouding a metal tub, holds all of the fixings (and then some) for a great holiday meal; the turkey rests in a beautifully crafted cork bowl inspired by the native nesting habitat of the wild turkey; for the kids, Mr. Potato Head, while appearing to levitate effortlessly over Manhattan, is an authentic Mr. Potato Head for their continued enjoyment (we hope); and lastly, each of the pieces can be removed from the bases and we think it'll make an awesome racetrack for their new Matchbox car.

We felt strongly that all materials used for the construction of the baskets would be recycled from our office or our homes, and that each piece would be crafted with the goal that it be used beyond the holiday's special meal. We sincerely hope that these will bring enjoyment to a special family this holiday season."
