 Brockton Plan: Transportation

Map of Brockton

Community Meeting
Project Highlights: Brockton Visioning

Brockton is one of the metro region’s satellite cities, located only 20 miles south of Boston. Brockton’s assets include good transportation access, strong educational and cultural institutions, and historic building stock; however, it also suffers from perceptions and realities of crime, economic underperformance and lack of community amenities.

Volunteers from CDRC-Boston and the Boston Society of Architects worked with Brockton city planners to facilitate three visioning sessions that gathered community feedback for the development of the city’s 2008 master plan. Topics for discussion included not only key planning areas such as transportation, housing or economic development, but also the values shared by all community stakeholders.

The final report to the Mayor organized the results into seven priority areas for community members. Each section of the report presented not only Brockton’s current assets challenges and community desires, but also offered local, national and international examples related to the topic. In addition to the community visioning sessions, consultants sought feedback through presentations to smaller groups of stakeholders and elected officials.
