Dudley Square Branch Library
The Dudley Branch Library of the Boston Public Library system is looking to promote attendance and use of the library's resources, with a focus on increased literacy among children. Library staff and local supporters are planning a temporary installation (September-November) based on a local author’s book that will lead patrons into the library towards the children’s reading room, while also highlighting information about the library’s services and activities. A consultant is needed to design the installation and its elements, as well as to provide materials and cost information to guide its fabrication. This is a perfect project for a talented designer or design team with skills and interest in graphic design and public art.
Brookview House
Brookview House is a service organization that assists homeless families in the development of skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty. Brookview has two properties, in Dorchester and Roxbury; at both locations, the outdoor spaces surrounding the properties have suffered from lack of maintenance and lack of well-programmed use. The staff would like to develop a better planting and long-term care plan for these spaces and find ways to better use them to support their mission.
International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) offers a variety of essential programs that help refugee families integrate into the community, achieve self-sufficiency, and rebuild their lives. After moving to a smaller office last year, the staff has been struggling to create efficient workspace and meeting space. The staff of the IRC seek a design volunteer or team to guide them in thinking about how to improve their space use in order to better fulfill their mission through current and future programs.
